Jessica J. Harrison

Jessica J. Harrison is Counsel in Sterne, Kessler, Goldstein & Fox's Electronics Practice Group, where she focuses on patent litigation and post-grant proceedings. With over three decades of patent experience, including 25 years at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), her practice spans a variety of electrical and computer technologies. Her expertise includes electronic games and amusement devices, computer-based training systems, and electrical medical instrumentation. She is notably recognized for her insight into video game development and intellectual property law, having examined and issued early patents in the electronic gaming industry, such as one for Nintendo's Game Boy™. Prior to joining Sterne Kessler, Ms. Harrison gained nearly a decade of private practice experience, including as a firm co-founder and as a Post-Grant Proceeding Specialist at Oblon.

In her litigation practice, Ms. Harrison has represented defendants, as seen in her appearance as Back-up Counsel for Roku, Inc. in VideoLabs, Inc. v. Roku, Inc. in the District of Delaware. This case, involving seven patents related to video coding, wireless content distribution, and device provisioning for streaming ecosystems, was dismissed with prejudice by joint stipulation, indicating a resolution between the parties. Her extensive background at the USPTO, where she served as a Supervisory Patent Examiner in the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU), provides her with deep expertise in reexamination proceedings and post-grant patent challenges. This experience is directly relevant to patent litigation strategy, as evidenced by Roku, Inc.'s engagement in Inter Partes Review (IPR) proceedings for patents asserted in the VideoLabs litigation.

Ms. Harrison earned her J.D. from the University of New Hampshire Franklin Pierce School of Law and holds M.S. and B.S. degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of South Carolina. She is admitted to the New Hampshire Bar, the U.S. District Court, New Hampshire, and is registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
