Jennifer Truelove

Jennifer Truelove is a highly accomplished trial lawyer and Principal at McKool Smith, known for her extensive experience in high-stakes intellectual property and patent infringement litigation, particularly in the Eastern District of Texas. Her practice encompasses a broad range of technologies, including semiconductors, OLED display technology, telecommunications (including 5G standard-essential patents), computer memory, and wireless communication technologies.

While demonstrating a clear preference for representing patent owners, with six tracked appearances on the plaintiff side, Ms. Truelove also has significant experience defending companies in patent disputes, with three tracked defendant-side appearances. Her notable plaintiff-side work includes securing substantial verdicts for clients such as Netlist against Micron Technology Inc. ($445 million) and Samsung ($303 million), PanOptis against Apple (verdicts of $506 million and $300 million), G+ Communications against Samsung ($142 million for 5G standard-essential patents), Ericsson against TCL Communication ($75 million), and Pictiva Displays International against Samsung ($191.4 million verdict in an OLED patent case, later adjusted to $98.8 million after a PTAB decision). She also successfully defended T-Mobile in a 5G telecommunications patent dispute against Daingean Technologies. Beyond patent litigation, Ms. Truelove played a key role in a $1.4 billion settlement for the State of Texas against Meta Platforms/Facebook regarding privacy issues.

Ms. Truelove is actively involved in proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), representing patent owners in inter partes review (IPR) proceedings, as seen in cases like Unified Patents v. Pictiva Displays International Ltd and Semiconductor Components Industries, LLC v. Greenthread, LLC. She is licensed to practice in Texas and earned her law degree from Texas Tech University in 1999. Prior to joining McKool Smith, she served as the First Assistant District Attorney of Harrison County, Texas, where she honed her trial skills as a prosecutor.
