Jeffrey I.D. Lewis

Jeffrey I.D. Lewis is a seasoned patent litigator known for his work in complex intellectual property disputes. He is a Registered Patent Attorney with a background as a chemical engineer, enabling him to handle cases across various technical fields.

Mr. Lewis's practice focuses heavily on patent litigation, where he represents both patent holders and accused infringers. His specific experience includes pharmaceutical patent litigation, particularly in Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) cases for innovators, as well as matters in other technology areas. His tracked appearances reflect a preference for defending clients, as evidenced by two defendant-side roles at Foley Hoag.

Currently, Mr. Lewis is with Foley Hoag, a firm recognized for its intellectual property practice that spans life sciences, technology, energy, climate, and cannabis sectors. Prior to joining Foley Hoag, he was a partner at Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler LLP.

His notable experience includes defending Rideshare Displays Inc. in cases such as Petitioner v. Rideshare Displays Inc. and Unified Patents v. Rideshare Displays Inc. These matters, involving vehicle identification systems for ridesharing services, proceeded through inter partes review (IPR) at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) and subsequent appeals to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Rideshare Displays, Inc. v. Lyft, Inc. The Federal Circuit affirmed the PTAB's findings that many challenged claims were unpatentable for obviousness, and reversed the Board's allowance of certain substitute claims due to patent ineligibility. Mr. Lewis is actively involved in PTAB proceedings, a key area for Foley Hoag's IP practice.
