Jefferson Cummings

Jefferson Cummings is a patent litigation attorney at Russ August & Kabat, specializing in complex intellectual property disputes across various technology sectors. His practice areas frequently involve computational architecture and software, including containerization, virtualization, and cloud-native technologies, as well as display devices, semiconductors, and optics. Cummings exhibits a balanced litigation approach, having represented both plaintiffs and defendants in patent infringement actions, with a slight preference for plaintiff-side engagements in his tracked case history.

Cummings' notable engagements include representing Paneltouch Technologies LLC in patent infringement actions against BOE Technology Group Co., Ltd., concerning display device technologies, and defending Paneltouch in related proceedings. He has also been involved in multiple cases for VirtaMove Corp., asserting patents related to container-based application portability and virtualization. These include VirtaMove Corp. v. Oracle Corporation, which resulted in a confidential settlement and dismissal with prejudice, and Virtamove Corp. v. International Business Machines Corp. et al., which also concluded in a dismissal with prejudice. Additionally, he represented VirtaMove in litigation against Google LLC, involving container technology patents, a case which saw a venue transfer to the Northern District of California and a partial denial of Google's motion to dismiss in a separate, consolidated action.
