Jason Wejnert

Jason Wejnert is an in-house Senior Patent Counsel at Unified Patents, where his practice focuses on patent risk mitigation and challenging low-quality patents. His work primarily involves initiating actions against patent holders, often Non-Practicing Entities (NPEs) or patent assertion entities, to deter frivolous litigation and improve patent quality in various technology sectors. He has consistently appeared on the plaintiff side in all seven of his tracked patent litigation appearances.

Wejnert's practice encompasses a wide range of complex technologies, including Internet and wireless technologies (e.g., Wi-Fi, WiMAX, CDMA, Bluetooth), e-commerce software, optical systems, computer software and hardware, photonics, database systems, telecommunications, medical devices, blockchain, semiconductors, MEMs, and chip microarchitecture. This breadth is reflected in the cases he has handled, such as challenges involving medical device technology (Unified Patents v. Treace Medical Concepts Inc.), consumer products (Unified Patents v. Monahan Products, LLC D/B/A/ UPPABABY et al.), and mobile commerce patents.

A notable outcome in his career includes involvement in actions against RFCyber Corp, a patent assertion entity, where a mobile payment patent (US9240009B2) was affirmed as unpatentable by the Federal Circuit in August 2025, effectively eliminating the patent threat. As part of his role at Unified Patents, he is frequently involved in Post-Grant Review (PGR) and Inter Partes Review (IPR) proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), with public records noting his involvement as in-house counsel in successfully granted ex parte reexamination requests concerning content delivery, application security, Wi-Fi, and geofencing patents.

Prior to his in-house role, Mr. Wejnert was a Principal with Much Shelist in Chicago, IL, and an Associate with Young Basile, concentrating on patent litigation and other intellectual property matters. He is admitted to practice in Illinois (since 2004) and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and holds a J.D. from Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law (2004) and an M.B.A. in Financial and Technology Management from Arizona State University College of Business (1999).
