Jason E. Gettleman

Jason E. Gettleman focuses his patent litigation practice primarily within the electrical and mechanical arts, drawing on his background in electrical and computer engineering. His expertise spans a diverse array of technologies, including integrated circuit technology, mobile phones, printer technologies, networking, television and streaming systems, and various other consumer electronics and software. While his tracked appearances in district court are exclusively for defendants, notably as lead counsel for HP Inc. in Nokia v. HP, Inc. et al., he regularly defends against exclusion orders at the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC). He has also represented plaintiffs in ITC proceedings, such as Elpida Memory Inc. in a DRAM patent infringement action.

Mr. Gettleman is a Partner at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, having also spent three years in the firm's Tokyo office where he advised Japanese clients on U.S. intellectual property matters. A significant achievement in his career includes helping to secure a $268 million verdict in 2018 for the Alfred E. Mann Foundation in a patent infringement action against Cochlear in the US District Court for the Central District of California. His practice also extends to counseling on intellectual property and litigation risks within the evolving data center industry.

Beyond district court and ITC litigation, he is experienced in patent post-grant proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). Mr. Gettleman earned his J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law in 2005 and holds a B.S. in electrical and computer engineering from Rutgers University, graduating with honors in 2001. He is admitted to practice in California, the District of Columbia, New Jersey, New York, and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
