James R. Perkins

James R. Perkins is a seasoned trial attorney specializing in high-stakes patent and trade secret litigation across various technology sectors. He primarily represents patent owners in complex disputes, though his experience extends to both plaintiff and defendant roles in federal courts nationwide, before the International Trade Commission, and at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). His practice areas encompass display technology, smart home systems, video doorbells, and window shade technology, often involving technically sophisticated proceedings.

Perkins is currently a professional at Gardella Alciati. Prior to this, he was a Member in Cole Schotz's Litigation and Intellectual Property Departments, resident in Dallas, Texas, from at least August 2023 through early 2024, and appearing on firm profiles through March 2026. He also served as Counsel at Caldwell Cassady & Curry, joining in Spring 2025. Earlier in his career, he practiced at boutique litigation firms, including Bragalone Conroy P.C..

Throughout his career, Perkins has been involved in significant patent disputes, helping secure substantial verdicts for his clients. While at Cole Schotz, he was part of the team that secured a $45.4 million patent infringement verdict for SB IP Holdings against Vivint Inc., related to video doorbell security systems. He also contributed to a $34.6 million infringement verdict for GeigTech in a patent dispute concerning window shade technology. Perkins acted as lead counsel for plaintiff Delaware Display Group LLC in patent infringement actions against LG Electronics Inc. and VIZIO Inc., involving LCD and backlight technologies. He has notably helped secure over $500 million in jury verdicts for clients in recent years.

His PTAB experience includes representing Vivint Inc. as a petitioner in an inter partes review (IPR) proceeding (IPR2022-01352) against SB IP Holdings LLC. Perkins earned his law degree from Georgetown University Law Center and completed his undergraduate studies at Texas A&M University, where he received recognition for outstanding academic achievement. He is licensed to practice law in Texas and Florida, and is admitted to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
