Eliza Beeny

Eliza Beeny is a patent litigation attorney and a Principal in McKool Smith's New York office, focusing her practice on intellectual property disputes. She handles a range of IP matters, including patent, trademark, and copyright infringement, as well as licensing disputes, particularly those involving standard essential patents (SEPs) and F/RAND (Fair, Reasonable, and Non-Discriminatory) commitments. Beeny’s experience spans various technology areas, notably including antenna technology and Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity, as evidenced by her representation of clients in this sector.

Beeny has experience representing both plaintiffs and defendants in patent litigation. Her casework includes defending clients such as Verizon Connect Inc. in patent infringement litigation filed by Fractus, S.A., a case that settled in March 2026 and involved patented antenna innovations critical to IoT connectivity. On the plaintiff side, she represented Ericsson in a global patent licensing dispute with Lenovo, which resulted in a confidential partial settlement and the withdrawal of all pending litigation and administrative proceedings.

Her practice extends to various forums, including federal courts across the country, the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC), and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). For instance, she has appeared as counsel for a patent owner in an Inter Partes Review (IPR) proceeding before the PTAB. Beeny was named a "Rising Star" in New York by Super Lawyers from 2021 to 2026 and recognized by the Patexia ITC Intelligence Report among the Top Most Active and Performing Attorneys Representing Complainants in 2023 and 2025.

Eliza Beeny earned her J.D. from Cornell Law School in 2016 and her B.A., with honors, from Johns Hopkins University in 2013. She is admitted to practice in the State of New York, the U.S. District Courts for the Southern District of New York, the Southern, Eastern, and Western Districts of Texas, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Before joining McKool Smith, she was a litigation associate at Davis Polk & Wardwell and served as a judicial law clerk for the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York.
