David C. Seastrunk

David C. Seastrunk is a Senior Patent Counsel at Unified Patents, bringing a practice focused primarily on post-grant proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). In this role, he is involved in preparing and litigating these proceedings, aligning with Unified Patents' mission to deter patent abuse. His experience spans a broad range of electrical and mechanical technologies, including software, consumer electronics, data processing, wireless communications, industrial manufacturing, unmanned aerial systems (UAS), fibers, textiles, polymers, films, and medical devices.

Throughout his career at Unified Patents, Mr. Seastrunk has largely operated on the petitioner side, challenging the validity of patents, a role consistent with Unified Patents' organizational goals. His tracked appearances include involvement as in-house counsel for Unified Patents in a case against SMART MOBILE TECHNOLOGIES LLC. He also served as backup counsel for Unified Patents in an Inter Partes Review (IPR) proceeding, Unified Patents, LLC v. Joseph Y. Yoon Intellectual Property LLC (IPR2022-00002), and was counsel in an ex parte reexamination against Dynamic Data Innovations LLC. His expertise extends to the strategic aspects of PTAB proceedings, as evidenced by his participation in webinars discussing PTAB rule changes and patent landscape analysis for technologies like C-V2X.

Prior to joining Unified Patents, Mr. Seastrunk practiced at Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner, LLP for several years. During his time there, he gained experience in all phases of post-grant proceedings, district court cases, and investigations before the International Trade Commission. He also practiced patent prosecution and client counseling, developing opinions on infringement, validity, and freedom-to-operate.

Mr. Seastrunk earned his J.D. from the University of North Carolina School of Law and holds a B.S. in Textile Engineering from North Carolina State University.
