Daniel Block

Daniel Block is a Director in the Electronics Practice Group at Sterne Kessler, specializing in complex patent litigation across federal district courts, the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC), and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). His technical expertise spans various computing domains, including computer graphics, networking communications, web services, complex computer architectures, and storage systems. His involvement in cases such as Zesty.AI, Inc. v. Aon Re, Inc. further highlights his experience with machine learning patents, specifically those related to assessing property risk using aerial imagery.

With a strong focus on post-grant proceedings, Mr. Block has served as counsel in over 110 cases before the PTAB, indicating a significant depth of experience in challenging patent validity. He was recognized among the "100 Best Performing Attorneys Representing Patent Owners" before the PTAB in the 2023 Patexia PTAB Intelligence Report. His single tracked appearance as Petitioner Counsel in Zesty.AI, Inc. v. Aon Re, Inc., an IPR proceeding, aligns with this extensive PTAB experience.

Beyond his litigation practice, Mr. Block also leads Sterne Kessler's AI initiatives, including the firm's internal R&D arm, Sterne Kessler Labs, which develops legal-AI tools. He earned his B.S. in Computer Science from RIT and his J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Minnesota Law School.
