Coby Nixon

Coby Nixon is a Partner at Buchalter, based in the firm's Atlanta office, where he chairs the Litigation Practice Group and is a member of the Intellectual Property Practice Group. With over twenty years of experience, his practice is primarily focused on patent infringement litigation, representing clients across various technology sectors. An engineer by training, he handles complex IP disputes, including those involving telecommunications standards (such as H.264 and H.265 video standards), leak detection technology, and mechanical systems like pipe couplings.

Mr. Nixon demonstrates a balanced practice, adept at representing both plaintiffs and defendants in patent disputes. His case history includes plaintiff-side representation for Echologics in patent infringement matters related to leak detection technology, resulting in confidential settlements. On the defense side, he secured a complete defense victory for Mueller Systems, LLC, through a summary judgment of non-infringement, and successfully defended ASC Engineered Solutions against Victaulic Company, winning a jury verdict of non-infringement. He has also achieved dismissals for clients following the successful cancellation or narrowing of patent claims through re-examination petitions.

Notable engagements include his work in Nokia Technologies Oy v. Hisense Co., Ltd. et al., where he appeared for both plaintiff and defendant entities, indicating a comprehensive involvement in complex, multi-party litigation concerning telecommunications patents and FRAND/RAND commitments.
