Christian Tatum

Christian Tatum maintains a patent litigation practice at McDermott Will & Schulte, with a focus on intellectual property matters including patent litigation and post-grant proceedings. His experience spans various technology sectors, such as energy generation, aerospace, and semiconductor. He has been affiliated with prominent technology companies, including Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, Renesas Electronics Corporation, and Samsung Electro-Mechanics, among others.

Tatum has experience representing clients on the plaintiff side, as indicated by his role as backup counsel for a petitioner in an Inter Partes Review (IPR) against patent owner Birchtech Corp. Birchtech is known for its specialty activated carbon technologies used in mercury emissions removal and water purification.

His practice includes significant involvement in PTAB and IPR proceedings, highlighted by his representation in the IPR concerning Birchtech's patents and his authorship on topics related to PTAB rules. Prior to his current firm, Tatum gained experience as a summer associate at Fish & Richardson P.C. and Baker Botts, and served as a Judicial Law Clerk for the Eastern District of Texas.

Academically, Christian Tatum earned his Doctor of Law in Intellectual Property Law from Columbia Law School, following a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Astronomy from The University of Texas at Austin.
