Caitlin Hogan

Caitlin Hogan is an experienced intellectual property litigator at O'Melveny & Myers LLP, focusing on complex patent disputes across diverse technology sectors. Her practice emphasizes the pharmaceutical, biological, chemical, and biotechnology industries, where she frequently represents high-profile pharmaceutical companies in patent litigations, including those under the Hatch-Waxman Act. Beyond life sciences, Ms. Hogan's expertise extends to technologies such as telecommunications, internet and e-commerce, digital image processing, banking operations, mechanical devices, medical devices, and commercial products, as reflected in her appearances for clients like Samsung Electronics in various matters.

Ms. Hogan demonstrates a balanced practice, having appeared as counsel for both plaintiffs and defendants in patent litigation, with four tracked appearances on each side. She is recognized for her involvement in significant cases, including her role on the O'Melveny team that secured a US$39 million jury verdict for Duke University and Allergan against Sandoz for infringing a patent related to an eyelash growth drug. Her case experience also includes representing Samsung Electronics as both a plaintiff and defendant in patent disputes against entities such as Omni MedSci, Inc., Network-1 Technologies, Inc., and XiFi Networks R&D, Inc.

A notable aspect of her practice is her considerable experience in inter partes review (IPR) proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). She has represented leading companies in IPRs challenging patents related to diverse technologies, including methods for associating advertising media signals, GPS and positioning issues, and touch sensor devices recognizing multi-touch gestures.

Ms. Hogan is admitted to practice in New Jersey and New York and is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. She earned her J.D., cum laude, from Fordham University School of Law, where she was an Associate Editor of the Fordham Intellectual Property, Media & Entertainment Law Journal, and holds a B.S.E. in Materials Engineering, cum laude, from Loyola University Maryland.
