Brian M. Koide

Brian M. Koide is a patent litigator with over 25 years of experience, specializing in high-technology patents, including electrical, semiconductor, computer hardware/software, telecommunications, network equipment, and electronic payment systems. While his tracked appearances show him primarily representing plaintiffs, his broader experience includes litigating for both patent holders and accused infringers across a wide range of technologies. He is currently Of Counsel at MWZB Law, with prior affiliations including Crowell & Moring LLP and Garteiser Honea.

His practice encompasses diverse technology areas such as wireless protocols, mobile applications, digital imaging, and vehicle monitoring systems. He served as Lead Counsel for Orthosie Systems, LLC in Orthosie Systems, LLC v. SVR, LLC, a case involving vehicle monitoring patents, which concluded with a dismissal without payment from the defendant. He also acted as Counsel for DataTreasury Corporation in DataTreasury Corporation v. Jack Henry & Associates, Inc., a dispute over patents related to remote document image capture and processing for financial transactions, where certain claims were found unpatentable in a Covered Business Method (CBM) review by the PTAB and affirmed by the Federal Circuit.

Mr. Koide has a comprehensive litigation background, having tried patent infringement cases to jury verdict and argued before the Federal Circuit. His experience extends to cases that resulted in landmark rulings by the U.S. Supreme Court. He is particularly active in post-grant proceedings, having made over two dozen arguments before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), and was recognized in 2021 by Managing IP for his frequent appearances in Inter Partes Reviews (IPRs) on behalf of patent owners. He also possesses experience in Section 337 investigations before the U.S. International Trade Commission.

Mr. Koide earned his Bachelor of Science in Structural Engineering from the University of California, San Diego, in 1990, and his Juris Doctor from Georgetown University Law Center in 1997. He is a Registered Patent Attorney with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and is a member of the District of Columbia Bar.
