Brent Bumgardner

Brent Bumgardner is a founding partner at Nelson Bumgardner Conroy, where his practice primarily focuses on patent infringement litigation and patent licensing. With a technical background in chemical engineering, Mr. Bumgardner handles complex patent matters across a wide array of technologies, including telecommunications, semiconductors, blockchain, software, computer security, e-commerce, and medical devices. Based on tracked appearances, his patent litigation work has exclusively involved representing plaintiffs.

Prior to co-founding Nelson Bumgardner Conroy, Mr. Bumgardner was a partner at Monts and Ware, LLP, and also worked as an attorney for McKool Smith, P.C., Munsch, Hardt, Kopf & Harr, P.C., and Strasburger & Price, L.L.P. His notable cases include serving as lead counsel for the plaintiff in Google LLC et al. v. ART Research and Technology LLC. He has also been recognized as a Top Rated Intellectual Property Litigator by Super Lawyers. The firm highlights its success in negotiating hundreds of license agreements on behalf of clients.

Mr. Bumgardner also has experience with post-grant review proceedings before the Patent and Trademark Office, including inter partes reviews (IPR) and covered business method (CBM) reviews. He is admitted to the State Bar of Texas and the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He earned his J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law in 1995 and a B.S. in Chemical Engineering, with honors, from the University of Texas at Austin in 1992.
