Benjamin B. Anger

Benjamin B. Anger is an intellectual property litigator at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, with a practice primarily focused on utility patents, design patents, trademarks, and trade dress. He counsels clients across a diverse range of industries, including life sciences, chemistry, medical devices, and consumer products, leveraging his background in chemical engineering and prior experience in information technology and software development consulting.

His case experience includes defending Luxottica Group S.p.A. in patent litigation concerning eyewear with integrated electronic components and representing HydraFacial LLC as a plaintiff in disputes over hydrodermabrasion systems.

Prior to joining Morgan Lewis, where he became a partner around February 2025, Mr. Anger was a partner at the national IP law firm Knobbe Martens. A notable achievement during his time at Knobbe Martens includes being part of the team that secured a complete victory for Spectrum Solutions LLC in inter partes review (IPR) proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). In this matter, the PTAB cancelled all 183 claims across five patents and sanctioned the patent owner for "egregious abuse of the PTAB process," a decision later affirmed by the USPTO Director.

His PTAB experience is extensive, including successfully challenging patent validity in IPRs and obtaining findings of unpatentability for multiple claims. He also co-authored a Law360 article analyzing six years of PTAB trends, showcasing his deep engagement with post-grant proceedings. Mr. Anger is admitted to practice in California, before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and in multiple federal courts, including the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
