Andrew B. Turner

Andrew B. Turner is a patent attorney at Brooks Kushman P.C., where he co-chairs the firm's post-grant proceedings practice group. His practice encompasses patent prosecution, intellectual property portfolio management, opinion preparation, and litigation support. Mr. Turner specializes in diverse technical fields, including autonomous and electrified vehicle systems, LED lighting systems, audio systems, electric machines, controls, electronics, and exercise equipment. He leverages his prior experience as an engineer in the automotive industry, where he developed electro-mechanical systems, to counsel clients on complex technical and business issues.

In patent litigation, Mr. Turner has represented clients on the plaintiff side, including Ford Motor Company in the case Ford Motor Company v. AutoConnect Holdings LLC. While his tracked district court appearances are primarily on the plaintiff side, he actively engages in post-grant proceedings, having worked on over 50 IPR matters representing both petitioners and patent owners. He also has experience with reexaminations, reissues, and appeals to the Federal Circuit. Notably, he represented IEE Sensing, Inc. as a petitioner in an IPR challenging patent claims related to vehicle occupant detection systems, which resulted in all challenged claims being found unpatentable, including substitute claims.

Mr. Turner is recognized for his expertise in post-grant proceedings and actively contributes to the PTAB Bar Association, having moderated an Interactive Roundtable Session with PTAB Judges at the PTAB Bar Association 2026 Annual Conference.

He earned his Juris Doctor from Wayne State University, a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Oakland University, and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from GMI Engineering & Management Institute (now Kettering University). He is a registered patent attorney and a member of the State Bar of Michigan.
