Alex Nemtzow

Alex Nemtzow is a Partner at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP, where he focuses his practice on intellectual property matters, with a strong emphasis on patent litigation, post-grant proceedings, and patent counseling. His technical expertise spans a wide array of technology areas, including quantum computing, telecommunications networks, robotics, medical devices, integrated circuits, semiconductor fabrication, data compression and management, Internet of Things, mobile applications, optics, batteries, and consumer products. Prior to his legal career, Nemtzow served as a patent examiner at the United States Patent and Trademark Office, specializing in applications related to electrical and magnetic measuring and testing, including digital and analog circuits, semiconductor devices, oil exploration, capacitive touch screens, position encoders, and automotive sensors.

Nemtzow primarily defends operating companies in patent disputes, as indicated by his track record of appearing exclusively on the defendant side in tracked cases. Notably, he has served as lead counsel for Intel Corp. in the case Proxense, LLC v. Intel Corp. This case, filed in May 2024 and closing in October 2025, involved patent litigation in the communications sector.

He is actively involved in post-grant proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), frequently contributing as an author to WilmerHale's "PTAB/USPTO Update" client alerts. Nemtzow earned his law degree from the University of Virginia, where he participated in the Patent and Licensing Clinic. He holds an undergraduate background in physics, having performed Monte Carlo simulations and data analysis for a dark matter detector as a researcher.
