Mobile Tech, Inc. (MTI) — also known as Mobile Technologies Inc. and formerly Merchandising Technologies, Inc. — is a privately held, private-equity-backed manufacturer headquartered in Hillsboro, Oregon (1050 NW 229th Ave). It was founded in 1977 (some databases list 1979) and has substantial operations in the U.S., with offices in London and Hong Kong. Vestar Capital Partners acquired the company from Hammond, Kennedy, Whitney & Company in August 2016; PTAB filings identify related holding entities (MTI Buyer, MTI Intermediate, Mobile Tech Holdings) and note an indirect ownership interest by MC Credit Partners as of 2020. Third-party data aggregators estimate roughly 850–900 employees and revenue in the $90M–$120M range, but the company is private and does not publish financials, so these figures are unverified.
MTI designs and sells retail merchandising security and display hardware and related software: anti-theft display mounts, alarming power and tether cables, retractable-cable systems, smart locks and access control, tablet cases, enclosures, docking stations, kiosks and carts, plus wireless/IoT store-analytics nodes. It also provides field services — installation, preventive maintenance, and break-fix support — for retail, healthcare, hospitality and manufacturing customers. It is an operating company, not a patent assertion entity; Stanford's NPE litigation database classifies it as a "Product company."
Litigation posture is an active two-way dispute with one direct competitor rather than NPE-driven. All nine tracked matters involve InVue Security Products Inc. MTI appears as plaintiff in six (mostly inter partes review petitions at the PTAB challenging InVue patents, plus appeals) and as defendant in three (InVue's infringement suits, notably the W.D.N.C. actions and InVue's 2019 D. Oregon suit over U.S. Patents 9,830,787 and 10,055,954 asserting products such as the "Freedom Micro" and "AirTether"). Cases also appear in the N.D.
