Company profile

ZyXEL Communications Corporation (Chinese: 合勤科技; commonly "Zyxel"; pronounced "zai-cell") is a Taiwanese networking equipment maker founded in 1989 by Dr. Shun-I Chu and headquartered in the Hsinchu Science Park, Hsinchu, Taiwan. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Zyxel Group Corporation (TWSE: 3704), the listed holding company formerly known as Unizyx Holding Corporation, which was created in a 2010 corporate split. Wikipedia lists 651 employees at Zyxel Communications as of Dec. 31, 2021, while business directories estimate a 1,000–5,000 band; PitchBook reports roughly US$796M in trailing-twelve-month revenue for the Zyxel Group parent as of March 2026. It is an operating company, not an NPE.

Products / operations. Zyxel designs and manufactures broadband access and networking hardware, largely sold to telecom carriers and ISPs and also through channel/SMB channels. Major lines include DSL/VDSL CPE and GPON/XGS-PON fiber gateways; 5G NR and 4G LTE fixed-wireless-access routers (e.g., NR5103, NR7201); WiFi 6/7 mesh systems and access points; enterprise Ethernet switches; USG-series firewalls; VoIP gateways and telephones; and the Nebula cloud network-management platform. It also acts as an OEM supplier of ISP-branded CPE. Zyxel Networks was spun off in 2019.

Litigation posture. Case data show 1 tracked case, 0 as plaintiff and 1 as defendant — the profile of an operating company being attacked rather than an aggressor. The sole tracked matter is CommWorks Solutions, LLC v. ZyXEL Communications Corporation, filed 2023-02-01 in the W.D. Tex. before Judge Albright (Mag. Gilliland). RPX records six patents-in-suit, a networking market sector, and about 183 days in litigation.

Context. CommWorks Solutions is characterized as a non-practicing entity in Stanford's NPE litigation database, listed there asserting acquired patents; Unified Patents identifies it as an NPE and subsidiary of IP Investments Group LLC. IPWatchdog reported an Altice USA declaratory-judgment filing alleging CommWorks and sister LLCs (DataCloud, DigiMedia) formed a coordinated assertion campaign with an Intellectual Ventures revenue backend — context for the W.D. Tex. suit against Zyxel, whose accused products are networking/Wi-Fi and broadband-access devices. No merits findings are reflected in the tracked record.
