Company profile

VIZIO Holding Corp. ("Vizio") is a US consumer-electronics maker founded in 2002 by William Wang and headquartered at 39 Tesla, Irvine, California. It was publicly traded on the NYSE (ticker VZIO) following a 2021 IPO, then became a wholly owned subsidiary of Walmart Inc. on December 3, 2024, when Walmart closed its $11.50-per-share, ~$2.3 billion all-cash acquisition; Vizio stock was delisted and the business is reported within Walmart's U.S. segment. Headcount is commonly cited at roughly 900 employees (Yahoo Finance, Simply Wall St, PitchBook); Barron's lists ~$1.86B revenue for 2023. Vizio continues to operate under CEO William Wang, reporting to Walmart's Seth Dallaire.

Operations. Vizio sells value-priced smart TVs, sound bars, and accessories in the US through retailers, distributors, and its own site. Its two reported segments are Device and Platform+, the latter comprising the SmartCast smart-TV operating system, the WatchFree+ ad-supported streaming app, and the Inscape data/automatic-content-recognition business. Advertising is the profit engine: Walmart's closing release states Platform+ "accounts for all the company's gross profit," and that SmartCast had amassed over 19 million active accounts. Vizio is an operating company, not a licensor or shell entity.

Litigation posture. The tracked record shows one appearance: Vizio as a defendant, zero as plaintiff — the profile of an operating company being sued rather than an active two-way litigant. The single case sits in the plaintiff-friendly US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas.

Notable case. Innovative Display Technologies LLC v. LG Display Co., Ltd. et al. (E.D. Tex., filed 2016-08-24) named Vizio alongside LG Display, LG Display America, and LG Electronics. Plaintiff IDT is an Acacia Research Corporation affiliate (Acacia Research Group and Acacia Research Corporation were identified as real parties-in-interest in related IPRs), characterized by Unified Patents and RPX as an NPE asserting acquired LCD/light-emitting-panel-assembly patents. RPX also records a related December 2015 IDT action against Vizio in Delaware asserting patents subject to instituted IPRs. Litigation funding/ownership details beyond Acacia's corporate parent are not documented here.
