Company profile

Company overview. The entity in the docket is CommScope Holding Company, Inc., the Delaware-incorporated parent of a group of U.S. networking subsidiaries including CommScope, Inc., CommScope Technologies LLC, and the ARRIS entities (ARRIS US Holdings, ARRIS Solutions, ARRIS Technology, ARRIS Enterprises). Founded in 1976 in Hickory, North Carolina, the company moved its headquarters to Richardson, Texas, in 2025. It is publicly traded — as CommScope under Nasdaq: COMM until January 14, 2026, when, after selling its Connectivity and Cable Solutions segment to Amphenol and transferring the CommScope brand with it, the parent was renamed Vistance Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: VISN). Per its 2025 Form 10-K, continuing operations had over 4,500 employees serving customers in more than 70 countries, with 2025 revenue of $1.93 billion. Long-time private-equity holder Carlyle fully exited its common stake by 2016 but held convertible preferred equity redeemed with the CCS sale proceeds.

Products / services. An operating company, not an NPE. Two segments remain: RUCKUS (2025 sales ~$0.7B) — indoor/outdoor Wi-Fi and LTE access points, access and aggregation switches, IoT, cloud-managed control software and SaaS analytics; and Aurora Networks (formerly Access Network Solutions, ~$1.2B) — cable modem termination systems, video infrastructure, distribution/transmission equipment and cloud solutions for HFC and fiber access networks. Divested businesses include Home Networks (Vantiva, 2023), Outdoor Wireless Networks and DAS (Amphenol, 2025), and CCS (Amphenol, January 2026).

Litigation posture. Defensive only. In the tracked data the company appears once, as a defendant in a single plaintiff-side suit, and never as a plaintiff — consistent with an infrastructure vendor absorbing NPE assertions. The case was filed in the plaintiff-friendly Eastern District of Texas before Judge Rodney Gilstrap.

Notable case. CommWorks Solutions, LLC v. CommScope Holding Company, Inc. et al., No. 2:23-cv-00510 (E.D. Tex., filed Nov. 3, 2023). CommWorks, an NPE whose Rule 7.1 disclosure lists parent Brainbox Innovations, LLC, asserted seven patents (priority 1999–2003) covering cross-layer QoS monitoring in broadband networks, time-based wireless provisioning (WPS), and contention-free traffic/WMM detection, accusing the CommScope XP6164S FLX GPON/XGS-PON OLT and the ARRIS NVG468MQ gateway. The parties jointly moved to dismiss, and the court dismissed all claims with prejudice. Separate, untracked litigation (TQ Delta v. CommScope, Fed. Cir. No. 24-1587) also reflects CommScope's role as a defendant in standards-based DSL patent suits.
