Bunker Hill Technologies LLC is a patent assertion entity and a subsidiary of Dominion Harbor Enterprises, LLC, a patent monetization firm. Formed in Texas in April 2022, Bunker Hill does not have products or services of its own. Instead, it acquires and asserts patents related to automotive and connected vehicle technologies. The company is part of a network of entities created by Dominion Harbor to hold and litigate patent portfolios.
Bunker Hill’s patent portfolio focuses on connected vehicle solutions, including vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication, advanced sensors, and electric vehicle (EV) battery charging technology. In 2025, the company acquired a portfolio of patents, including declared standard-essential patents for 5G technology, from Shanghai Langbo Communication Technology Co., Ltd. This and other acquisitions are part of a strategy to assemble and monetize patents in the automotive sector.
In line with its business model as a non-practicing entity (NPE), Bunker Hill's patent-litigation posture is that of a plaintiff. As of late 2025, the company launched a litigation campaign, suing major automakers including Toyota, Ford, and Nissan in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, a venue known for patent cases.
The tracked litigation shows this assertion strategy in action. The November 2025 suit against Toyota Motor North America is a prominent example of its enforcement efforts. Subsequently, Toyota challenged the validity of at least one patent asserted by Bunker Hill by filing a petition for inter partes review with the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) in April 2026. Industry analysis group Unified Patents has also filed for an ex parte reexamination of a Bunker Hill patent related to EV battery charging.
