Xiao Chang

Xiao Chang is Senior Corporate Counsel in the IP litigation group at Cisco Systems, Inc., focusing her practice on defending the company against patent infringement claims, particularly those brought by non-practicing entities (NPEs). Her work primarily involves technologies related to networking, wireless communications such as Wi-Fi and mesh networking, SD-WAN solutions, VoIP collaboration, and network security.

In her in-house role at Cisco, Ms. Chang manages a significant portion of the company's patent litigation docket. She was involved in the case of Dynamic Mesh Networks, Inc. et al. v. Cisco Systems, Inc., which concerned patents related to mesh networking and Forward Error Correction technology targeting Cisco's SD-WAN and Webex products. This case was notably dismissed without prejudice just 59 days after filing. Another related matter, Cisco Systems, Inc. v. Dynamic Mesh Networks, Inc., initiated by Cisco, was dismissed for lack of subject matter jurisdiction. She also saw Croga Innovations v. Cisco Systems dismissed with prejudice, asserting patents in VoIP telephony and network security.

Ms. Chang actively engages in Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) proceedings, evidenced by her role in signing a Power of Attorney for an Inter Partes Review (IPR) petition filed by Cisco Systems, Inc. Prior to joining Cisco, she honed her patent litigation skills in private practice at Desmarais LLP and Kirkland & Ellis LLP in New York City.

Academically, Ms. Chang holds a J.D. from Stanford Law School, complemented by a M.S. and B.S. in Biochemistry from the University of Pennsylvania.
