William W. Cochran

With over fifty years of experience, William W. Cochran is a founding member of Cochran Freund & Young LLC, a firm focused on intellectual property law. His extensive career includes serving as a Patent Examiner, a patent attorney for the Office of Naval Research and Los Alamos National Laboratory, and in-house counsel as World-Wide Director of Intellectual Property Litigation at Hewlett-Packard. Prior to establishing his current firm in 2004, he was a partner at Merchant & Gould, where he started the firm's Denver office, and was of-counsel with Holland & Hart. Mr. Cochran's technical experience is broad, covering computer hardware and software, electronics, laser systems, and semiconductor technology.

Mr. Cochran's litigation practice focuses on representing patent holders, often smaller companies, in infringement suits against large corporations. The single tracked case, Ledup Manufacturing Group Ltd v. Seasonal Specialties LLC, reflects this focus, with Cochran serving as lead plaintiff's counsel. His firm biography notes his role as co-counsel in litigation against major companies such as Proctor & Gamble, Johnson & Johnson, and Glaxo Smith Kline, and he has also served as a patent law expert witness in several cases.

The tracked Ledup case is an appeal to the Federal Circuit from an inter partes review (IPR) proceeding before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), indicating experience with PTAB matters. Mr. Cochran earned his B.S. from Colorado State University. He was admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in 1973, the Colorado Bar in 1983, and the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in 1982.
