William Meunier

William Meunier is a highly experienced patent litigation attorney and a Member at Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo, P.C. His practice focuses heavily on intellectual property litigation, particularly patent infringement matters and the enforcement of intellectual property rights. He handles disputes across a diverse array of technologies, including semiconductor devices and fabrication, internet services and systems, computer hardware and software, mobile systems and applications, medical devices, biotechnology, and mechanical devices.

Meunier primarily represents patent owners and complainants in complex disputes. His tracked appearances reflect a focus on plaintiff-side litigation, including as lead counsel for Marlin Semiconductor Limited against Apple et al. in district court and at the International Trade Commission (ITC). While he has experience representing both plaintiffs and defendants, his firm profiles emphasize his successful track record in defending and enforcing patent rights for patent owners. Before joining Mintz in 2014, he was a partner at Goodwin Procter.

A significant portion of Meunier's practice is dedicated to Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) proceedings, including inter partes reviews (IPRs). He is consistently recognized as a top IPR practitioner and has an impressive success rate for patent owners in IPRs, notably higher than the industry average. His notable PTAB experience includes successfully representing Elm 3DS in a series of 14 IPRs, preserving 105 out of 107 challenged integrated circuit claims, and securing the first complete reversal and remand of an IPR decision against a patent owner at the Federal Circuit. He also represented Marlin Semiconductor Ltd. as a patent owner in IPRs initiated by Unified Patents, LLC and by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Ltd. and Apple Inc., where discretionary denials of institution were granted for multiple petitions. Further IPR successes include defending semiconductor patents for Innovative Foundry Technologies and successfully representing Shopify as a petitioner to invalidate claims of e-commerce patents.

Meunier is admitted to practice before several U.S. District Courts, the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Seventh and Federal Circuits, and is registered with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He earned his Juris Doctor, summa cum laude and first in his class, from The John Marshall Law School, and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Tufts University.
