Thomas A. Rammer

Thomas A. Rammer is Of Counsel in Ice Miller's Intellectual Property Group, where he focuses on patent litigation and other intellectual property matters. His practice encompasses a wide range of technology areas, including pharmaceutical, semiconductor, and software, alongside mechanical and electrical devices, as evidenced by his involvement in cases related to power equipment. He handles both offensive and defensive patent litigation, having appeared equally for plaintiffs and defendants across his tracked cases.

Rammer has substantial federal trial experience, including advocacy in jury trials, patent claim construction, summary judgment motions, and preparation for Federal Circuit appeals. He also advises clients on litigation alternatives such as licensing and strategic settlements.

A significant aspect of his practice includes experience before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). He has served as counsel for petitioners in inter partes review (IPR) proceedings, notably representing MWE Investments, LLC as a petitioner in IPR2025-01271 against Champion Power Equipment, Inc. Concurrently, he represented MWE Investments, LLC as a defendant in the related district court patent infringement case, Champion Power Equipment, Inc. v. MWE Investments, LLC.

Rammer earned his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from DePaul University College of Law, specializing in intellectual property and patent law. He also holds a Master of Science in Chemistry from the University of Chicago and dual Bachelor of Science (Physics) and Bachelor of Arts (Chemistry) degrees, magna cum laude, from the University of St. Thomas. He is admitted to practice in Illinois, before the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, and is registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
