Steven M. Bauer

Steven M. Bauer is a highly experienced patent litigator with a focus on complex technology and life sciences disputes. His practice encompasses patent, trade secret, trademark, and copyright litigation. He has handled cases involving diverse technologies such as satellite, cable, cellular RF, and wireless communications networks, voice recognition, data encryption, surgical and medical devices, genetic diagnostics, high-energy plasma devices, nanomaterials, lithium-ion battery materials, polymers, and high-temperature superconductors.

Throughout his career as a litigator, Mr. Bauer primarily served as trial counsel for operating companies, representing both plaintiffs and defendants. The single tracked appearance shows him defending Microsoft Corporation in Uniloc USA, Inc. v. Microsoft Corporation. However, his broader litigation experience includes acting as lead counsel for emerging companies, multinational businesses, and major research universities. Notably, he successfully represented MobileMedia Ideas against Apple in a jury trial in Delaware, where the jury found Apple infringed three of the plaintiff's patents related to iPhone features. He also represented a major pharmaceutical company in a misappropriation case and defended a leading manufacturer of dental crowns and implants in a patent dispute.

Prior to transitioning to a full-time role as a mediator and arbitrator in 2020, Mr. Bauer spent 17 years as a partner at Proskauer Rose LLP, where he co-chaired the firm's nationwide Litigation Department and its Patent and Intellectual Property Group. He has tried cases in numerous major U.S. forums and regularly argued appeals to the Federal Circuit, where he previously served as a law clerk. His experience also includes regularly appearing in IPR hearings before the Patent Office.

Mr. Bauer earned both his S.B. and S.M. degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), with a biomedical focus, and his J.D. from Boston University Law School.
