Shen Yan

Shen Yan is an intellectual property attorney specializing in patent litigation and portfolio management, primarily focusing on innovations in the physical sciences, including computer engineering and software. As Director of Intellectual Property – Physical Sciences and In-House Counsel at Skysong Innovations, LLC, the technology transfer organization for Arizona State University (ASU), Mr. Yan plays a key role in protecting and commercializing university research. He joined Skysong Innovations in May 2017, following a background in private practice handling patent prosecution.

His litigation practice demonstrates a primary focus on the plaintiff side, with three out of four tracked appearances representing plaintiffs. This aligns with Skysong Innovations' mission to disseminate ASU discoveries by asserting and licensing its intellectual property. Mr. Yan also has experience defending patents, as seen in his single defendant-side appearance.

Notably, Mr. Yan is involved in significant patent disputes concerning cybersecurity technology. He represents Skysong Innovations as a plaintiff in Skysong Innovations, LLC v. CrowdStrike, Inc. et al., a patent infringement suit filed in the Western District of Texas in January 2025, which targets CrowdStrike's cybersecurity platform. He also regularly appears in PTAB (Patent Trial and Appeal Board) proceedings, having defended Skysong's patents against challenges initiated by Unified Patents and CrowdStrike, including IPR2025-01400 and IPR2025-01170, which relate to browser security and exploit prediction.

Mr. Yan holds a B.S.E. in computer engineering and a J.D. from the Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law at Arizona State University and is a registered patent attorney.
