Shekhar Vyas

Shekhar Vyas is a seasoned patent litigation attorney at Stamoulis & Weinblatt LLC, with over two decades of experience in intellectual property and complex commercial law matters. His practice is broad, encompassing diverse technology areas such as electrical engineering, digital media, computer software, compression technologies, medical technology, and telecommunications. Stamoulis & Weinblatt represents both patent litigation plaintiffs and generic pharmaceutical defendants, indicating a versatile practice across both sides of patent disputes.

Mr. Vyas has handled significant cases, including representing Lupin Ltd. as a defendant in Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. v. Lupin Ltd. et al.. In this Hatch-Waxman litigation, the Federal Circuit recently affirmed a district court's judgment of non-infringement in favor of Lupin and found certain asserted claims invalid as obvious. He also appeared as plaintiff's counsel for Sampo IP LLC in Sampo IP LLC v. Intuit Inc., a case involving software/co-browsing technology, where related litigation saw the patent owner face a summary judgment of non-infringement in district court and unpatentability of claims affirmed by the Federal Circuit in an inter partes review. His past experience includes defending Microsoft against video compression and speech compression patents, securing a jury verdict of no infringement and an affirmed summary judgment of no infringement, respectively. He also achieved a "top defense victory" in 2000, as recognized by the National Law Journal, for his work defending FORE Systems in a case involving ATM and Ethernet patents.

His experience extends to patent portfolio strategy, management, optimization, and licensing. While his firm's attorneys are registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, confirming a basis for PTAB/IPR work, the Sampo IP case directly involved an IPR proceeding where the asserted patent claims were deemed unpatentable.

Prior to joining Stamoulis & Weinblatt LLC, Mr. Vyas was a Partner at Fish & Richardson and The Eclipse Group, a Managing Attorney at Ladas & Parry LLP, and in-house counsel for a multi-billion dollar equity fund. He is admitted to practice in California.
