Specialty & background

Scott Lamar Cole is a nationally recognized patent litigator and trial lawyer with extensive experience in high-stakes commercial and intellectual property disputes. He currently serves as the Managing Partner of the Austin office for Reichman Jorgensen Lehman & Feldberg LLP (RJLF) and is also associated with SLC Trial Law, PLLC. Cole primarily represents plaintiffs, having secured four nine-figure verdicts and numerous eight- and seven-figure outcomes, recovering over $1 billion for his clients throughout his career.

His practice encompasses a broad range of technology sectors, including telecommunications, microprocessors, enterprise software, video streaming, and standards essential patents. Notably, he has handled cases involving inductive wireless charging technology, such as his representation of Vampire Labs LLC in patent infringement actions against Anker Innovations Ltd. and Apple Inc. The case against Anker Innovations Ltd. ended in a stipulated dismissal with prejudice, while the suit against Apple Inc. reached a settlement in principle.

Before joining RJLF in February 2025, Cole held leadership roles at other prominent firms, including Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, LLP, where he helped establish their Austin office, and McKool Smith, where he spent 20 years. Among his significant achievements, Cole was the architect behind the nearly $400 million Versata Software v. SAP victory, which included a $345 million verdict affirmed by the Federal Circuit. He also secured a $108.9 million judgment for WiLAN v. Apple, which later settled.

While the patents involved in cases he has handled, such as those for Vampire Labs LLC, have been subject to inter partes review (IPR) proceedings that terminated in settlement, the available information does not indicate that Cole regularly appears in IPR or post-grant review proceedings himself. Cole earned his J.D., with honors, from The University of Texas School of Law in 1994, and a B.A., Phi Beta Kappa and with high honors, from The University of Texas at Austin in 1990. He is admitted to practice in Texas and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, among other federal courts.
