Scott C. Cole

Scott C. Cole is a nationally recognized patent litigator and trial lawyer with 30 years of experience in commercial and intellectual property disputes. He currently serves as the Managing Partner of the Austin office for Reichman Jorgensen Lehman & Feldberg LLP (RJLF), which he joined in February 2025. Prior to RJLF, Mr. Cole was a partner at Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, LLP, where he helped establish their Austin office, and spent two decades at McKool Smith.

Mr. Cole primarily represents plaintiffs, having secured over $1 billion for his clients across more than 30 cases tried to verdict. His record includes four nine-figure verdicts and numerous eight- and seven-figure outcomes. His practice spans a wide array of technology fields, including telecommunications, microprocessors, enterprise software, video streaming, and standards-essential patents (SEPs). This aligns with his role as lead counsel for the plaintiff in Smart Mobile Technologies LLC v. Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. et al.

Among his notable achievements, Mr. Cole was lead counsel in Versata Software v. SAP, where he secured a $345 million verdict in a patent infringement action involving enterprise software, which culminated in a $391 million judgment affirmed by the Federal Circuit—believed to be the largest monetary judgment ever affirmed by the Federal Circuit at the time. He also achieved an $85 million patent infringement verdict for WiLAN, Inc. against Apple, resulting in a $108.9 million judgment. Further, he represented Ericsson in patent infringement and ITC litigation against Apple and Samsung concerning LTE, WCDMA, and GSM/GPRS/EDGE technologies, which settled favorably. Mr. Cole earned his J.D., with honors, from The University of Texas School of Law in 1994, where he was a Townes-Rice Scholar, a member of the Chancellors, and selected for the Order of the Coif.
