Ryan Yagura

Practice focus. Ryan K. Yagura is a partner at O'Melveny & Myers in Los Angeles and chairs the firm's Intellectual Property and Technology Practice. His practice centers on high-stakes patent litigation for global technology and consumer-electronics companies, spanning district court, U.S. International Trade Commission (Section 337) investigations, and PTAB proceedings. His technology mix runs to MPEG/H.264/H.265 video-compression standards, graphics processors, microprocessors, wireless/cellular and 802.11 Wi-Fi standard-essential patents, LCD display and memory technology, and stylus/touch input systems, with related work in trade secrets, technology licensing disputes, FRAND/standard-setting, and antitrust (per his O'Melveny bio and Chambers USA, Band 4, IP: Patent Litigation – California). The flagship tracked matter is Power2B, Inc. v. Samsung Electronics Co. (Fed. Cir. No. 23-2184, decided May 19, 2025), where Yagura served as lead IPR/appellate counsel for Samsung. The Federal Circuit affirmed PTAB findings that 42 claims across two Power2B stylus-input patents (U.S. 7,952,570 and 8,547,364) were unpatentable as obvious and reversed the Board's survival of one claim, giving Samsung a full win on the challenged claims (Judge Stark dissenting in part). PTAB/IPR experience. Yagura has a substantial IPR practice, almost entirely petitioner-side for Samsung — lead or back-up counsel in IPR2021-01190 and IPR2021-01257 (Power2B), IPR2022-00300/00405, IPR2017-02021, and IPR2021-01254 (Solas OLED), and he is registered to practice before the USPTO.
