Ryan Kiyoto Iwahashi

Ryan Kiyoto Iwahashi is a patent litigation partner at Gish PLLC, specializing in high-tech intellectual property disputes. His practice focuses on patent infringement, trade secret misappropriation, intellectual property licensing, and standard-essential patent (SEP) matters. With a strong background in computer science, he frequently handles cases involving complex technologies such as computer software, networking, consumer devices, cellular and Wi-Fi standards, data storage, streaming media, artificial intelligence, and business methods.

Throughout his career, Mr. Iwahashi has primarily represented defendants, defending innovative technology companies against infringement claims. Before joining Gish PLLC, he spent nearly a decade in the IP Litigation Group of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP. Notable litigation experience includes serving as lead counsel for the defendant in DISH Technologies, LLC et al. v. A Parent Media Co. Inc. et al., a dispute concerning streaming technology that was voluntarily dismissed, reportedly with a settlement involving licensing and royalty payments. He has also successfully obtained dismissals of patents for Cisco, defeated a motion for preliminary injunction for Rubrik, and defended Dell against a 12-patent dispute. Mr. Iwahashi also has experience representing clients in matters before the International Trade Commission (ITC), including Fitbit, SharkNinja, and Peloton.

Mr. Iwahashi possesses extensive experience in proceedings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, including filing successful inter partes review (IPR) petitions for Dell and Avi Networks.

He earned his J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law, and holds both an M.S. and B.S. in Computer Science from the University of California, Davis. Mr. Iwahashi is admitted to the State Bar of California and the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and previously served as a law clerk for the Honorable Kathleen O'Malley at the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
