Ryan J. Malloy

Ryan J. Malloy is an IP Litigation partner at Morrison & Foerster, specializing in patent and trade secret litigation, primarily representing leading technology companies on the defense side. His practice frequently involves technically complex matters in areas such as GPU technologies, mobile messaging, wireless charging, CPU designs, circuit designs, UI/UX design software, and video applications. Malloy leverages his background as an electrical engineer, including graduate studies where he designed semiconductor devices, to litigate disputes involving cutting-edge technologies like generative AI and nanoscale devices.

Malloy's case experience reflects a strong preference for defending operating companies, as evidenced by his appearances on the defendant side in all tracked cases. He has represented Apple Inc. in prominent patent disputes, including Apple Inc. v. HBCU Messaging US LP and HBCU Messaging US LP v. Apple Inc. et al. His work for Apple has included achieving a stipulated judgment of non-infringement in a patent matter concerning iMessage and FaceTime. He also secured a complete victory for Insta360 in a Section 337 investigation against GoPro. Other notable representations include defending Nvidia in a six-patent case involving GPU technologies and Xilinx (now part of AMD) in a 16-patent case on circuit designs.
