Runkun Jiang

Runkun Jiang is an Associate in the Intellectual Property practice at Perkins Coie, specializing in patent litigation with a strong technical background in electrical engineering, semiconductor technology, and related fields. His practice areas encompass disputes involving telecommunications, software, artificial intelligence, financial services, and semiconductor technologies. This focus is informed by his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and prior experience as a semiconductor engineer.

In his litigation practice, Mr. Jiang has represented both plaintiff and defendant interests. He appeared as Of Counsel for defendant Monolithic Power Systems, Inc. in Greenthread, LLC v. Monolithic Power Systems, Inc., a case involving U.S. patents directed toward semiconductor devices with graded dopant regions. This litigation was stayed pending inter partes review (IPR) proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) challenging the asserted patents. Perkins Coie has achieved success in related PTAB proceedings, securing the invalidation of several semiconductor patents for Monolithic Power Systems. Mr. Jiang also represented Sony Group Corporation as plaintiff in Sony Group Corporation v. Greenthread, LLC, a matter concerning patents related to transistors and integrated semiconductor devices.

Mr. Jiang's patent litigation skills are complemented by his experience in patent prosecution, having been a registered patent agent with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office since 2019. Before joining Perkins Coie as an associate, he gained experience at two intellectual property boutique law firms and served as a summer associate at Perkins Coie.

He is admitted to practice in California and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Mr. Jiang earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from American University Washington College of Law in 2024. He holds a Ph.D. (2017), M.S. (2013), and M.E. (2012) in Electrical Engineering from Pennsylvania State University, and a B.E. (2010) in Materials Science and Engineering from Northwestern Polytechnic University.
