Robert R. Gilman

Robert R. Gilman is a patent litigation attorney with significant experience across a diverse array of technology areas. His practice encompasses technologies such as cloud computing, networking, AI, cellular technology, database and application software, network hardware and software, GPS devices, laser printing, electrical circuitry, medical devices, and consumer products. He has handled cases involving data compression, encoding, and accelerated storage systems.

Gilman maintains a balanced practice, representing both plaintiffs and defendants in patent disputes. His experience includes serving as Lead Counsel for the plaintiff in RealTime Data, LLC v. Acronis, a case asserting patents related to data compression, which concluded with a dismissal with prejudice for the plaintiff's claims. He also served as counsel for the defendant in Unified Patents Inc. v. Shipping and Transit LLC, an inter partes review (IPR) proceeding.

Currently, Gilman is a Partner and Co-Chair of the Intellectual Property Practice Group at Prince Lobel Tye LLP. Prior to joining Prince Lobel in 2016, he co-founded intellectual property boutique firms Hayes Messina Gilman & Hayes LLC and Gilman Clark LLC, and was a partner at Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky & Popeo P.C.. Over his career, he has contributed to favorable judgments and settlements in federal courts, including securing a $388 million verdict in a patent infringement case and achieving summary judgment of non-infringement that was affirmed by the Federal Circuit.

Gilman earned his J.D. from Suffolk University Law School in 1999 and a B.A. from Boston College in 1992. He is admitted to practice in Massachusetts, before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and in the U.S. District Courts for the District of Massachusetts, the Western District of Texas, and the Eastern District of Texas.
