Rita Chipperson

Rita Chipperson is a seasoned intellectual property attorney with a practice focused on patent litigation, prosecution, licensing, and strategic counseling. Her technical experience spans a wide range of fields including business methods, electrical, mechanical, Internet, and software patents. She has litigated cases involving diverse technologies such as automation systems, communication systems, wireless recording systems, and data compression.

As Principal at Chipperson Law Group, P.C., Ms. Chipperson primarily defends operating companies in patent disputes. Her two tracked appearances are both on the defendant side, representing Zaxcom, Inc. in significant patent challenges. Prior to founding her firm, she practiced intellectual property law with Ward & Olivo and served as Of Counsel to Flaster Greenberg.

Ms. Chipperson has a notable record of success in Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) proceedings, particularly for Zaxcom, Inc. In June 2026, she secured a unanimous 3-0 Final Written Decision from the PTAB, which rejected a patent challenge brought by RØDE Microphones, LLC and Freedman Electronics Pty Ltd. concerning Zaxcom's wireless audio technology patents. This victory followed earlier favorable PTAB outcomes in 2025, where challenges to Zaxcom patents were either denied institution or deemed time-barred. She also represented Zaxcom, Inc. in Federal Circuit appeals stemming from prior IPRs, where substitute claims for wireless audio technology were upheld.
