Reza Roghani Esfahani

Reza Roghani Esfahani is an intellectual property litigation attorney at Brooks Kushman P.C., where he was promoted to shareholder in January 2025. His practice encompasses a broad range of technologies, including mechanical, chemical, pharmaceuticals, and computer sciences. Mr. Esfahani has significant experience with patent litigation, particularly involving automotive technologies and vehicle computer control systems, as evidenced by his representation of Ford Motor Company. While his tracked appearances show involvement for both plaintiffs and defendants, he has primarily served as counsel for defendants in notable cases.

Among his significant engagements, Mr. Esfahani has served as lead counsel for Ford Motor Company in multiple patent infringement disputes with AutoConnect Holdings LLC, which involved patents related to automotive technologies and vehicle computer control systems. In the case of FMReps Consulting Enterprises, LLC v. Ford Motor Company, he was part of the team that successfully defended Ford, leading to a dismissal at the pleading stage when the court found the asserted software patents invalid under 35 U.S.C. § 101 for claiming an abstract idea. Additionally, he played a key role in the defense of Ford Motor Company in Versata Software v. Ford Motor Company, where the litigation team reduced a $1.4 billion damages claim to $3 in nominal damages.

Mr. Esfahani is a member of Brooks Kushman's post-grant practice group and has experience representing clients in Inter Partes Review (IPR) proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). His involvement in post-grant proceedings is also reflected in the AutoConnect Holdings LLC v. Ford Motor Company litigation, which saw a stay granted pending the outcomes of IPRs. He earned his Juris Doctor, Master of Science, and Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, all from the University of Michigan. He began practicing law in 2019.
