Ragnar G. Olson

Ragnar G. Olson is a partner at Global IP Law Group, where his practice centers on patent monetization, including licensing and sales strategies. His experience primarily involves representing patent owners in efforts to assert and commercialize their intellectual property, as evidenced by his tracked appearances exclusively on the plaintiff side in litigation.

Mr. Olson possesses a diverse technical background, enabling him to handle a broad spectrum of patent cases. His educational foundation includes a Master's Degree in Information Technology from Northwestern University, with coursework in wireless communications, computer networks, and data mining, alongside a Chemistry degree from Indiana University. This expertise spans fields from pharmaceutical compounds and chemical substances, informed by his prior work as a Chemist, to advanced software and communication technologies, such as the real-time chat systems involved in his representation of Disintermediation Services, Inc.

His notable representations include serving as Lead Counsel for Disintermediation Services, Inc. in patent infringement actions, such as Disintermediation Services, Inc. v. Hello UMI S.L. and a related case against Liveadmins, LLC, which involved patents covering asymmetric, two-way real-time communication systems. The dispute with Liveadmins ultimately resolved through a confidential settlement. Beyond district court litigation, Mr. Olson also has experience in post-grant proceedings, having appeared on behalf of the patent owner in an Inter Partes Review (IPR2019-00629). Admitted to practice law in Illinois and registered before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, Mr. Olson earned his Juris Doctor from Chicago-Kent College of Law, where he also received a certificate in Intellectual Property. He began his legal career in 2006, following a role as Director of Ocean Tomo's patent transactions group, where he oversaw numerous patent transactions across various technical fields.
