Qi Tong

Qi Tong is a patent litigation attorney with a strong focus on intellectual property disputes, particularly in the federal courts of Texas. His practice areas span a variety of electrical engineering and computer technologies, including semiconductor processing, multicore processors, power management, software, containerization systems, and wireless communications devices. He has experience representing clients in cases involving computer architecture, memory design, analog and digital circuits, and mobile devices.

Tong primarily represents plaintiffs in patent infringement cases, as evidenced by his appearances in three plaintiff-side matters compared to one defendant-side matter. He is a partner at Russ August & Kabat, where he heads the firm's Dallas office. His career includes prior roles as an Associate Patent Attorney at Winston & Strawn LLP and as an Associate at Knobbe Martens Olson & Bear LLP. Before entering law, he gained engineering experience at Hewlett Packard and Raytheon Network Centric Systems.

Notable cases include representing Redstone Logics LLC in a patent dispute against NXP Semiconductors, N.V., concerning multicore processor technology, which was resolved through a stipulated order of dismissal. He also served as lead counsel for VirtaMove Corp. against Hewlett Packard Enterprise, a case involving novel containerization systems and methods. Additionally, he was counsel for Cobblestone Wireless LLC in a patent infringement suit against Apple Inc. Tong has a track record of success, including securing a jury verdict for hundreds of millions of dollars for a client in a patent lawsuit.

He is also experienced in Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) proceedings, having successfully handled inter partes review (IPR) cases before the USPTO for both plaintiffs and defendants.

Tong earned his J.D. from the University of Texas at Austin in 2014 and graduated summa cum laude with an electrical engineering degree from the University of Texas at Dallas. He is licensed to practice in Texas since 2020 and is also admitted to the California Central District Court, Texas Western District Court, and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
