Philip Ou

Philip Ou is a highly experienced patent litigator and the Office Executive Partner for White & Case LLP's Silicon Valley office, where he focuses on complex intellectual property disputes. His practice spans various advanced technology sectors, including automotive conversational AI and voice recognition, mobile messaging, web infrastructure, signal conversion, and solar technology.

Throughout his career, Mr. Ou has demonstrated a balanced practice, representing both plaintiffs and defendants in high-stakes patent infringement cases. While at Paul Hastings, he served as lead counsel for Cerence Operating Company in a patent dispute against General Motors LLC, involving AI, text-to-speech (TTS), and voice recognition technologies. On the defense side, as a partner at White & Case, he secured a notable victory for Voltage LLC, obtaining a "no violation" finding from the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) in a patent infringement dispute with Shoals Technologies Group, LLC concerning solar technology. He has also defended major technology companies like ByteDance Ltd. (TikTok) in cases involving web innovations and mobile messaging. Further demonstrating his defense capabilities, Mr. Ou successfully defended HTC, invalidating eight patents as patent ineligible, a decision affirmed by the Federal Circuit. His experience also includes appearing before the USPTO Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) and foreign tribunals.

Mr. Ou joined White & Case as a partner in March 2023, having previously practiced at Paul Hastings. He is admitted to the State Bar of California, having earned his law degree from Santa Clara University School of Law.
