Pavan K. Agarwal

Pavan K. Agarwal is a prominent intellectual property partner at Foley & Lardner LLP, focusing his practice on patent litigation, licensing, and counseling within high-technology sectors. He specializes in electronics and automotive technologies, with particular expertise in areas such as artificial intelligence, autonomous vehicles, medtech, wireless communications, graphics processing, memory control, and standard essential patents (SEPs). As chair of the firm's Innovative Technology Sector and a member of its Automotive Sector, he advises manufacturing and high-tech clients on the business impacts of patents throughout their lifecycle.

Agarwal's litigation experience includes significant engagements in U.S. Federal Districts, the International Trade Commission (ITC), and appellate courts. He represented Greene's Energy Company before the U.S. Supreme Court in a landmark case that upheld the constitutionality of inter partes review (IPR) proceedings. His work also includes representing a leading chipmaker in patent infringement and trade secret litigations involving semiconductor processing and phased arrays, and securing favorable IPR outcomes for a major automotive supplier, including invalidating asserted patent claims. While his tracked case, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. v. Agarwal earned his J.D., with highest honors, from George Washington University Law School in 1996, and a B.S.E.E., summa cum laude, from the University of Maryland in 1993, where he graduated first in his class.
