Paul G. Williams

Paul G. Williams is a patent litigator at Kasowitz Benson Torres, where his practice focuses on complex civil litigation, particularly patent and other intellectual property disputes. He represents clients at both the trial and appellate levels, with significant experience in a range of technologies including medical devices, pharmaceuticals, software, internet, and telecommunications.

Williams demonstrates a versatile practice, representing both patent holders and accused infringers. His track record includes securing a jury trial verdict for a patent holder against a medical device manufacturer for infringement of a stent patent and breach of contract. He also has experience successfully representing pharmaceutical companies in Hatch-Waxman patent litigation and defending against misappropriation of trade secret claims. While many of his tracked cases involve representing Intellectual Ventures as a plaintiff against major corporations like Southwest Airlines, American Airlines, and Deere & Co., he has also acted as lead counsel for defendants, notably for Southwest Airlines against Intellectual Ventures.

His experience extends to post-grant proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). Williams represented Intellectual Ventures I LLC as the Patent Owner in an Inter Partes Review (IPR) proceeding (IPR2026-00043) initiated by American Airlines, Inc. and Southwest Airlines Co., where the PTAB denied institution of review regarding U.S. Patent No. 8,027,326 B2.

Williams earned his J.D. and LL.M., cum laude, from Duke University School of Law in 1999, where he was a Notes Editor for the Duke Journal of Comparative and International Law. He also holds an M.F.S. from National University (1996), an M.A. from the University of London (1993), and a B.S. from the United States Naval Academy (1985). He is admitted to practice in Georgia.
