Paul A. Kroeger

Paul A. Kroeger is a litigation partner at Russ August & Kabat, where he is a member of the firm's intellectual property litigation and patent litigation groups. His practice centers on complex business and intellectual property disputes at both the trial and appellate court levels. Kroeger's patent litigation experience includes cases involving multimedia and display technologies, as seen in Multimedia Technologies Pte Ltd. v. [Defendant Not Available], as well as security and enterprise technology matters such as Athena Security Inc v. Google LLC and Athena Security, LLP v. Hewlett Packard Enterprise Company. He also has experience with patent and trademark disputes for clients in the exercise equipment industry.

Kroeger primarily represents plaintiffs in patent infringement litigation, accounting for four of his six tracked appearances. He also takes on defense roles, having appeared on behalf of defendants in two tracked cases, including Google LLC v. Headwater Research LLC and Apple Inc. v. Resonant Systems Inc. His firm's patent litigation practice has a record of achieving trial wins and multi-million dollar settlements against major technology companies.

In one notable matter where Kroeger served as local counsel, Multimedia Technologies Pte. Ltd. v. LG Electronics, a jury found LG Electronics not to infringe and that the asserted smart television patents were invalid. An ensuing Federal Circuit appeal in the same matter was later voluntarily dismissed by mutual agreement. The firm also has experience with inter partes review (IPR) proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), including an early victory for a patentee.

Kroeger earned his B.S. in Civil Engineering in 2000 and his J.D. in 2003 from the University of Southern California. He was admitted to the State Bar of California in 2003 and is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Central, Eastern, and Northern Districts of California, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Prior to joining Russ August & Kabat, he was an associate at Jeffer Mangels Butler & Mitchell LLP and Raines Feldman LLP.
