Nishi A. Tavernier

Nishi A. Tavernier is a patent litigator with Morrison & Foerster, focusing her practice on complex intellectual property disputes. She primarily defends operating companies, with all ten of her tracked appearances being on the defendant side. Her technical expertise spans a range of areas, including aeronautics, camera technology, mobile devices, data management and security systems, and software, supported by her advanced engineering background.

Ms. Tavernier has been involved in several notable cases. She was part of the team that secured a significant victory for Insta360 (Arashi Vision (U.S.) LLC) against GoPro, Inc. in a U.S. International Trade Commission investigation in February 2026. The Commission rejected all five utility patent infringement claims related to camera stabilization and other technologies, finding them invalid or not infringed. She also contributed to a Morrison Foerster team that achieved a stipulated dismissal with prejudice for Innovyze in a multi-patent litigation concerning hydraulic modeling and water network monitoring software. Additionally, she has represented clients such as Virtru Corporation, which reached a confidential settlement in a patent litigation against Microsoft Corporation. Her active caseload includes defending Apple Inc. in mobile messaging patent litigation brought by HBCU Messaging US LP, and CrowdStrike, Inc. against Skysong Innovations, LLC in software security patent litigation.

Her practice also includes experience with inter partes review (IPR) petitions, as evidenced by her work on IPRs related to the Apple and CrowdStrike matters. Ms. Tavernier is admitted to practice in New York and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. She earned her J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School and holds an M.S. in aerospace engineering and a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Washington University in St. Louis.
