Nathaniel St. Clair, II

Nathaniel St. Clair, II is a seasoned intellectual property litigator and counselor, currently serving as the firmwide Head of Jackson Walker LLP's Intellectual Property practice group. His practice primarily emphasizes patent litigation, encompassing a broad range of technologies, particularly within the electrical and mechanical arts. St. Clair’s technical experience spans automotive and consumer electronics, avionics, computing devices, data networks, digital imaging, financial services products, medical devices, software, telecommunications, and wireless devices. He provides comprehensive IP counseling, including infringement and invalidity analyses, patentability studies, and risk assessments.

St. Clair predominantly represents defendants, aligning with his two tracked appearances on the defendant side. He has a strong track record of defending operating companies, including Fortune 500 corporations, in high-stakes patent infringement lawsuits. Notable defense outcomes include resolving a multi-patent, multi-district litigation matter for Trellix (formerly McAfee Enterprise) in the Eastern District of Texas for a fraction of the eight-figure damages sought by the plaintiff. He also secured a dismissal with prejudice for a major technology company in a Western District of Texas case and successfully settled multi-patent litigation for three financial institutions for a small fraction of the plaintiffs' demands or through outright dismissal.

Prior to joining Jackson Walker in May 2013, St. Clair practiced at Jones Day and Foley & Lardner LLP, where he focused on patent litigation and other intellectual property matters. Before his legal career, he gained valuable technical insight as a patent engineer/agent for GE Healthcare. The Jackson Walker IP litigation group, of which he is a leader, is experienced in proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), as well as appeals to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. St. Clair's professional recognitions include being named a "Patent Star" by Managing Intellectual Property (2024-2025) and being shortlisted for "Litigator of the Year – Texas" in 2024. He was also recognized among the top 100 patent attorneys in Patexia's 2026 Patent Intelligence Report.

St. Clair earned his B.S.E.E. from the University of Michigan and his J.D. from Marquette University Law School. He is admitted to practice in Illinois and Texas.
