Moeka Takagi

Moeka Takagi is an intellectual property attorney at Perkins Coie LLP, where she serves as an associate in the firm's Intellectual Property practice. Her practice focuses on patent litigation, representing both plaintiffs and defendants across a diverse range of technology areas. She handles cases involving artificial intelligence (AI), image processing, file sharing protocols, financial technology, and other software-based systems. Prior to her legal career, Takagi gained experience as a patent agent and patent engineer, advising on prosecution strategies and patentability evaluations.

Ms. Takagi's patent litigation experience includes her role as counsel for the University of British Columbia in the case CaptION Health Inc. v. University of British Columbia, where she represented the defendant. This case is notably linked to Inter Partes Review (IPR) proceedings (IPR2025-01422 and IPR2025-01066) before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), where she also represents the patent owner. Her broader representative experience encompasses defending human resources management and social media companies in patent infringement actions, and acting for a European smartphone maker in litigation concerning touch-sensitive LED display devices. She has also represented online gaming, e-commerce, and online payment processing companies in patent disputes.

Her educational background includes a J.D. from UCLA School of Law (2020) and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences from the University of California, Berkeley (2014). She is admitted to practice in California and before the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas.
