Minna Y. Jay

Minna Y. Jay is a Partner at Russ August & Kabat, where her practice is concentrated on high-stakes patent litigation across various technology sectors. Her work frequently involves complex technologies, including wireless communications, smart thermostats, data compression, electronic storage devices, semiconductors, and specialized hardware for high-frequency trading. Jay primarily represents plaintiffs, as indicated by her appearances exclusively on the plaintiff side in tracked cases. She has significant experience in all phases of litigation before federal district courts, the International Trade Commission (ITC), and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB).

Throughout her career at Russ August & Kabat, Ms. Jay has contributed to achieving substantial client outcomes, including more than a billion dollars in awards and settlements. Notable cases in which she has appeared include Headwater Research LLC v. Verizon Communications et al. and Headwater Research LLC v. Uber Technologies, Inc., where she served as lead counsel. She also represented HFT Solutions LLC as counsel in HFT Solutions LLC v. Optiver US LLC et al., a case involving patents related to high-frequency trading. Previously, as Minna Y. Chan, she was part of the legal team that secured a $7.5 million jury verdict and a finding of willfulness for Pavo Solutions, LLC in Pavo Solutions, LLC v. Kingston Technology Company, Inc., concerning a USB flash memory drive patent.

Ms. Jay earned her Juris Doctor (JD) in 2015 from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles, and her Bachelor of Arts (BA) in 2011 from the University of California, Los Angeles. She was admitted to the State Bar of California on December 3, 2015.
