Miguel Bombach

Miguel Bombach is a patent litigation attorney with a practice focused on complex intellectual property disputes in federal courts and before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). His technical expertise is rooted in electrical engineering and computer science, covering areas such as LED lighting, power converters, memories, semiconductor devices, and wireless data transmission systems (OFDM). He also has experience with solar cell technologies, including n-type TOPCon technology.

Bombach represents both plaintiffs and defendants in patent matters. While his tracked case appearances show a slight inclination towards defendant-side representation (4 defendant, 2 plaintiff), his broader practice includes securing plaintiff-side jury trial victories, as well as obtaining summary judgments of non-infringement for defendants. He is noted for his work on both sides in PTAB proceedings, representing both patent owners and challengers.

He is currently a partner at Foley & Lardner LLP, having joined the firm in April 2025 as part of a five-partner team from Perkins Coie, where he was previously a partner.

Key cases include his role as lead counsel for Monolithic Power Systems Inc. in Greenthread Ltd v. Monolithic Power Systems Inc, a semiconductor patent case that was stayed pending inter partes review (IPR) proceedings at the PTAB. He also served as lead counsel for Sony Group Corporation in Sony Group Corporation v. Greenthread, LLC, likely representing Sony as a petitioner in IPR challenges against Greenthread's patents. On the plaintiff side, he represented Shanghai Jinko Green Energy in Shanghai Jinko Green Energy Enterprise Management Co LTD et al. v. VSUN Solar USA Inc. et al., a solar cell patent dispute that saw an initial dismissal for one defendant on jurisdictional grounds before reaching a settlement. Additionally, while at Perkins Coie, he was part of the trial team that secured a $14 million jury verdict for Jiaxing Super Lighting Electric Appliance Co., Ltd. in a willful infringement case involving LED tube lamp technologies.

Bombach is actively involved in PTAB proceedings, having led numerous patents to final resolution before the Board for both patent owners and challengers. He was admitted to the State Bar of California in December 2010.
